Dogs Ears – What They Can Show And Tell
If your dog is relaxed and alert, her ears will move a little as they pick up sounds from different directions. If the ears are laid back against her head take note as this can be a sign of aggression or submissiveness. Always act with caution around a dog if their ears are laid back.
Not only are a dog’s ears an indicator of mood, they can show if she is ill. If your dog is sick,
she may pull back her ears to various positions depending on how bad she feels. Then there are the times when the ears are the problem.
You can tell if there is an ear problem if she is pawing at her ears, yelps when the ears are touched, or if you smell an odor coming from her ears. It is best to take her to the vet for an examination and treatment. The problem could be ear mites, a dirty ear canal or an ear infection.
Remember, as you groom your dog, check the ears. If they are dirty, use a cloth to gently wipe the outside portion of the ear. Never try to clean the inside of a dogs ear, leave that to the vet.
