Dog Training – Interactive Food Toys and Impulse Training (Video Included)

In the video included with this post, you will learn the importance of interactive food toys with shelter dogs such as Shag.  View this video and listen as Joan Miller, animal behaviorist, explains to WAG volunteers the importance that an interactive food toy is to a dog especially a dog that is pinned up in a kennel most of the day.  In Shag’s situation, he does not know where his food is coming from since there are so many different people who feed him.  Joan recommends hand feeding him which will increase the bonding between Shag and the volunteer.

As for impulse training, Joan speaks to training puppies that they can not have what they want when they want it.  This training helps in adulthood and training that puppy to walk with you on a leash.   Obviously Shag was not impulsed trained for he pulls when placed on a leash.  We are working with him to properly walk on a leash.

Click on the video, turn it up to listen and catch the training of the volunteers.
